Now that we’re 17 days into March, ¾ of the sweaters in the bracket have fallen—and that includes yet another no. 1 ranked sweater. Sorry, Pixar, although I imagine it’s got bigger self-inflicted controversies to contend with at the moment.
This leave the Log Lady’s cardigan from Twin Peaks as the only top-ranked sweater standing. And with two no. 2’s a no. 4, three no. 9’s, and more than half of the remaining sweaters being ranked in the double-digits, I honestly have no idea how this is gonna shake out, especially compared to last year when it became evident that a some fandoms were rallying behind their shows.

Voting will close on Thursday, March 19, two days from now.
Cables Matchup: (2) Call the Midwife vs (14) The Jane Austen Book Club

Credits: Netflix | Hulu
(2) Call the Midwife (7×01, “Episode 1”)
The Sweater: A white Aran sweater with a shawl collar
Who Wore It: Nurse Beatrix "Trixie" Franklin (Helen George)
Replica: No
Notes: I know basically nothing about Call the Midwife (a common refrain this tournament tbh), but I can confirm that it’s a very good sweater.
Previously Defeated: (15) The Night Agent; (7) The Banshees of Inisherin
(14) The Jane Austen Book Club
The Sweater: A chunky white Aran cardigan
Who Wore It: Jocelyn (Maria Bello), who is set to host the Jane Austen book club meeting to discuss Mansfield Park.
Replica: Yes
Notes: Despite Jocelyn’s link to Fanny Price’s story, she relates a lot more to Emma Woodhouse.
Previously Defeated: (3) Classic Doctor Who; (6) Succession

Cables Matchup: (9) Inside Llewyn Davis vs (13) How to Get to Heaven from Belfast

Credits: Pluto TV | Netflix
(9) Inside Llewyn Davis
The Sweater: Four traditional Irish white Aran sweaters, each with different styles of cables
Who Wore It: Four Irish Singers (Erik Hayden, Jeff Takacs, Declan Bennett, & Daniel Everidge), who sound lovely but mostly annoy Llewyn Davis (Oscar Isaac). He’s a fan of those sweaters, though.
Replica: No
Notes: The Coen Brothers’ nod to the Clancy Brothers—the Irish folk music group who were known for their Aran knits as much as their voices—is short and sweet, but I imagine they could also make for tumultuous protagonists in a different movie. (Apologies to the two crooners I had to cut out since they wouldn’t fit in the side-by-side panel template I’ve been using for this.
Previously Defeated: (8) The Terror; (1) Sherlock
(13) How to Get to Heaven from Belfast (1×03, “The Ghost”)
The Sweater: A green cable-knit sweater
Who Wore It: Saoirse Shaw (Roisin Gallagher), a TV writer who joins two of her friends to attend the wake of the estranged member of their group. Needless to say, it probably doesn’t go as planned.
Replica: No
Notes: This show only came out a few weeks ago, but it’s from Lisa McGee, the genius behind Derry Girls, so I have very high hopes for it. As for Netflix renewing it? Maybe not so much.
Previously Defeated: (4) Big Fish; (5) The Bear

Holiday/Cardigan Matchup: (1) Twin Peaks vs (12) Heretic

Credits: Paramount+ | Kimberley French/A24
(1) Twin Peaks (2×18, “On the Wings of Love”)
The Sweater: A brown and white Cowichan cardigan
Who Wore It: Margaret "The Log Lady" Lanterman (Catherine E. Coulson), one of the many quirky but extremely perceptive residents of Twin Peaks, Washington.
Replica: Yes (and yes) [I’m including two versions of the cardigan because I found both a fan-made version and a vintage Mary Maxim pattern, but it only got one allotment of the 10-point bonus per the rules.]
Notes: Twin Peaks is a spoil of riches in its knitwear, so it was a lot more difficult than you’d think to narrow it down; early in the process, I actually had a different Twin Peaks knit but I left it out this year because I needed to fill a cardigan spot. But I think I’m happy with where I landed.
Previously Defeated: (16) A Very Harold & Kumar Christmas; (9) The Mindy Project
(12) Heretic
The Sweater: A burgundy, yellow, beige, blue, pink, and green checkered buttoned cardigan. The trim where the buttons are is also burgundy.
Who Wore It: Mr. Reed (Hugh Grant), who goes out of his way to make two young Missionaries’ lives hell.
Replica: No
Notes: If cardigan so cozy and welcoming, why so dastardly?
Previously Defeated: (5) The Twilight Saga: New Moon; (4) Community

Holiday/Cardigan Matchup: (11) Project Hail Mary vs (15) Peter Hujar’s Day

Credits: YouTube | Criterion Channel
(11) Project Hail Mary
The Sweater: A white cardigan. The front features two wolf heads (depicted with reddish-brown yarn) on the sides, with two full-bodied wolves on the back
Who Wore It: Dr. Ryland Grace (Ryan Gosling), a teacher (and former molecular biologist) who becomes the world’s most unlikely candidate to save humanity.
Replica: Yes—but you can also see it in-person at AMC Lincoln Square
Notes: The ultimate “inside you there are two wolves” sweater. Also, the review embargo for Project Hail Mary has lifted (as has the temporary block on showing Letterboxd star ratings), so based on early numbers, this cardigan received around the same score as Community. That’s even before the box office score (still tbd) kicks in.
Previously Defeated: (6) Ugly Betty; (14) Practical Magic
(15) Peter Hujar’s Day
The Sweater: A green, white, and black Aztec cardigan
Who Wore It: Linda Rosenkrantz (Rebecca Hall), a writer who recorded her friend Peter Hujar (Ben Whishaw) recounting what happened to him the day before in 1974.
Replica: No
Notes: I was so unprepared for Linda Rosenkrantz’s sweater making it to Round 2 that I had to ask my friend Sam (a literal queen) to pull up the film on the Criterion Channel—where it’s streaming right now—and screenshot as many angles of it as possible since I don’t have that streaming platform anymore so I could add new angles of Linda’s cardigan for this round (and possibly future rounds). But if nothing else, run, don’t walk, to Criterion Channel to watch Peter Hujar’s Day.
Previously Defeated: (2) Wicked: For Good in the tournament’s first true upset; (7) Only Murders in the Building
