This round of sweaters open up and bundle up.

The Truman Show: A masterpiece that’s also somehow scarier than a traditional horror movie! (Credit: Hulu)
It’s the final day of the first round, and we have only 16 more sweaters and cardigans to vote on before turning to the Round of 32!

Today’s Matchups

The final 16 face off. (Source: Screenshot)
Matchup: (1) Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood (all seasons) vs (16) The Lake House

Credits: Netflix | Max
(1) Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood (various, all seasons)
The Sweater: A green cardigan (likely hand-knitted by his mother) that’s cozy enough to wear at home.
Who Wore It: The singular Fred Rogers, of course. Who’d probably have a lot of thoughts about what’s happening to children’s education right now.
Replica: Yes
Notes: It’s not so much that Mr. Rogers’ green cardigan is the key sweater from this series—I feel like when I picture him, he’s always in red—but rather, it’s the best-quality screenshot I could get from Won’t You Be My Neighbor?, the documentary about Rogers that’s streaming on Netflix right now. (10/10 would recommend, but keep tissues nearby.)
(16) The Lake House
The Sweater: A white light-weight Aran cardigan that closes with a single button.
Who Wore It: Dr. Kate Forster, who’s sharing letters with the house’s previous tenant through means that are never explained. (It’s a romance, just go with it.)
Replica: No
Notes: An extremely 2006 sweater as indicated by the wooden hook acting as a button.

Matchup: (2) The Big Lebowski vs (15) Clueless

Credits: Peacock | YouTube
(2) The Big Lebowski
The Sweater: A tan and brown Westerly zippered cardigan.
Who Wore It: The dudest Dude (Jeff Bridges) to ever dude.
Replica: Yes
Notes: Tired: Purchasing the Dude’s Pendleton Westerly sweater for yourself. Wired: Purchasing the Dude’s Pendleton Westerly sweater for your dog.
(15) Clueless
The Sweater: A neon yellow buttoned cardigan that pairs well with a yellow plaid miniskirt.
Who Wore It: Aspiring matchmaker and popular high school valley girl Cher Horowitz (Alicia Silverstone).
Replica: No
Notes: This choice is probably less about the sweater itself and the fact that it compliments what’s actually Cher’s most famous outfit from the film.

Matchup: (3) Scooby Doo, Where Are You! seasons 1-3 vs (14) The Lighthouse

Credits: YouTube | Max
(3) Scooby Doo, Where Are You! (all episodes)
The Sweater: A baggy orange turtleneck sweater that pairs even better with an all-important pair of glasses.
Who Wore It: Mystery, Inc.’s STEM-focused Velma Dinkley (Nicole Jaffe for seasons 1–2; Pat Stevens for season 3 of the original series).
Replica: Yes
Notes: A classic.
(14) The Lighthouse
The Sweater: A light gray Guernsey sweater (according to behind-the-scenes photos since the film is in black-and-white).
Who Wore It: Canadian Wickie and No. 1 seagull hater Ephraim Winslow (Robert Pattinson), who’s hiding much more than the fact that his name is actually Thomas Howard.
Replica: Yes
Notes: Maybe it’s the magic of a Robert Eggers movie striving for period accuracy, but that Guernsey sweater just looks like it smells, even if it didn’t when Pattinson and Willem Dafoe shot this.

Matchup: (4) Dunkirk vs (13) Moonstruck

Credits: Melinda Sue Gordon/Warner Bros. Entertainment Inc. | Prime Video
(4) Dunkirk
The Sweater: A ribbed burgundy turtleneck sweater.
Who Wore It: Peter Dawson (Tom Glynn-Carney), the son of a sailor who sets a course to Dunkirk to rescue soldiers in the water.
Replica: No
Notes: Great sweater movie.
(13) Moonstruck
The Sweater: A ribbed periwinkle cardigan.
Who Wore It: A very disheveled—but still very much a babe—Loretta Castorini (Cher).
Replica: No
Notes: A fantastic look for someone getting dumped by her fiancé and proposed to by his brother in a matter of minutes.

(5) Jaws
The Sweater: A dark gray turtleneck sweater.
Who Wore It: Grizzled shark hunter Quint (Robert Shaw).
Replica: No
Notes: Another man of the sea wearing the proper attire!
(12) Doctor Zhivago
The Sweater: A white turtleneck sweater paired with dark gray fingerless gloves.
Who Wore It: Lara Antipova (Julie Christie), a young woman in Russia toward the start of the Russian Revolution.
Replica: No
Notes: I know the least about this film of any of them (it’s on my list), but Lara’s turtleneck is here mainly because it’s a really nice sweater.

Matchup: (6) The Banshees of Inisherin vs (11) Grease

Credits: Courtesy of 20th Century Studios | YouTube
(6) The Banshees of Inisherin
The Sweater: A hand-knitted red collared sweater.
Who Wore It: Pádraic Súilleabháin (Colin Farrell), who’s at the end of an increasingly escalating friendship breakup—and without the ability to subtweet.
Replica: Yes
Notes: The Banshees of Inisherin has a ton of great knitwear, but the crowning achievement is this pullover designed to look like a button-down shirt. And Delia Barry, the Irish octogenarian who made it, is pretty cool, too.
(11) Grease
The Sweater: A preppy light yellow cardigan.
Who Wore It: A very naïve and summer-romanced Sandy Olsson (Olivia Newton-John).
Replica: No
Notes: The song where Sandy wears this sweater is now stuck in my head—possibly yours, too.

Matchup: (7) The Truman Show vs (10) Scream (1996)

Credits: Hulu | YouTube
(7) The Truman Show
The Sweater: A ribbed dark gray turtleneck.
Who Wore It: A Truman Burbank (Jim Carrey) who’s finally about to take control of his life.
Replica: No
Notes: The Truman Show is nearly over 25 years old, is probably overused as a reference, and absolutely holds up.
(10) Scream (1996)
The Sweater: A cream v-neck sweater about to get a lot of blood on it.
Who Wore It: Soon-to-be-murdered teen Casey Becker (Drew Barrymore).
Replica: No
Notes: Probably the most iconic moment of that entire franchise?

Matchup: (8) The Holiday vs (9) Poker Face season 1

Credits: Netflix | Peacock
(8) The Holiday
The Sweater: A white Aran cardigan that’s appropriately warm enough for a holiday in Surrey.
Who Wore It: Movie trailer editor Amanda (Cameron Diaz), newly settled into the quintessential English cottage she swapped her LA mansion for.
Replica: Yes
Notes: Previously written about in a feature. A delightful addition to the Nancy Meyers-verse.
(9) Poker Face (1×01, “Dead Man’s Hand”)
The Sweater: A latte cream checkered jacquard cardigan.
Who Wore It: Charlie Cale (Natasha Lyonne), the human-lie-detector-turned-modern-day-Columbo.
Replica: No
Notes: A previous Knitwear of the Week recipient. Very sad that I couldn’t buy this one.
