It’s the final day of the first round, and we have only 16 more sweaters and cardigans to vote on before turning to the Round of 32!

We’ve had our fair share of upsets throughout this tournament so far, but yesterday’s matchups featured a big one: Our No. 1 seed—Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone—got taken down by only a single vote in the first round. And it’s not the only matchup determined by one vote.

The Sweater: A green cardigan (likely hand-knitted by his mother) that’s cozy enough to wear at home.

Who Wore It: The singular Fred Rogers, of course. Who’d probably have a lot of thoughts about what’s happening to children’s education right now.

Notes: It’s not so much that Mr. Rogers’ green cardigan is the key sweater from this series—I feel like when I picture him, he’s always in red—but rather, it’s the best-quality screenshot I could get from Won’t You Be My Neighbor?, the documentary about Rogers that’s streaming on Netflix right now. (10/10 would recommend, but keep tissues nearby.)

The Sweater: A white light-weight Aran cardigan that closes with a single button.

Who Wore It: Dr. Kate Forster, who’s sharing letters with the house’s previous tenant through means that are never explained. (It’s a romance, just go with it.)

Notes: An extremely 2006 sweater as indicated by the wooden hook acting as a button.

The Sweater: A neon yellow buttoned cardigan that pairs well with a yellow plaid miniskirt.

Who Wore It: Aspiring matchmaker and popular high school valley girl Cher Horowitz (Alicia Silverstone).

Notes: This choice is probably less about the sweater itself and the fact that it compliments what’s actually Cher’s most famous outfit from the film.

Notes: A classic.

The Sweater: A light gray Guernsey sweater (according to behind-the-scenes photos since the film is in black-and-white).

Who Wore It: Canadian Wickie and No. 1 seagull hater Ephraim Winslow (Robert Pattinson), who’s hiding much more than the fact that his name is actually Thomas Howard.

Notes: Maybe it’s the magic of a Robert Eggers movie striving for period accuracy, but that Guernsey sweater just looks like it smells, even if it didn’t when Pattinson and Willem Dafoe shot this.

The Sweater: A ribbed periwinkle cardigan.

Who Wore It: A very disheveled—but still very much a babe—Loretta Castorini (Cher).

Notes: A fantastic look for someone getting dumped by her fiancé and proposed to by his brother in a matter of minutes.

Who Wore It: Lara Antipova (Julie Christie), a young woman in Russia toward the start of the Russian Revolution.

Notes: I know the least about this film of any of them (it’s on my list), but Lara’s turtleneck is here mainly because it’s a really nice sweater.

Notes: The Banshees of Inisherin has a ton of great knitwear, but the crowning achievement is this pullover designed to look like a button-down shirt. And Delia Barry, the Irish octogenarian who made it, is pretty cool, too.

The Sweater: A preppy light yellow cardigan.

Who Wore It: A very naïve and summer-romanced Sandy Olsson (Olivia Newton-John).

Notes: The song where Sandy wears this sweater is now stuck in my head—possibly yours, too.

Who Wore It: A Truman Burbank (Jim Carrey) who’s finally about to take control of his life.

Notes: The Truman Show is nearly over 25 years old, is probably overused as a reference, and absolutely holds up.

The Sweater: A cream v-neck sweater about to get a lot of blood on it.

Who Wore It: Soon-to-be-murdered teen Casey Becker (Drew Barrymore).
