I’m feeling under the weather today, so I’m gonna keep this part brief. But with one round down (and half of the sweaters gone from competition) and 91 of you voting via Google Forms (with another 16 or so on Bluesky), things are about to get interesting. You’ll also start to see new photos of the sweaters (another requested change from my poll from January).

And if you found the past few days of matchups to be overwhelming, fear not: From here on out, there will be a maximum of four matchups per voting period.

The Sweater: A gray twisted cable sweater

Who Wore It: Dr. John Watson (Martin Freeman), a former British Army doctor freshly back from Afghanistan and who’s about to get the most obnoxious roommate ever.

Replica: Yes

Notes: Between all of the queerbaiting and blatant misogyny, the modern BBC Sherlock gets such a bad (and almost entirely earned) rap. But when it hit, it really hit.

Previously Defeated: (16) The Muppets Take Manhattan

The Sweater: Four traditional Irish white Aran sweaters, each with different styles of cables

Who Wore It: Four Irish Singers (Erik Hayden, Jeff Takacs, Declan Bennett, & Daniel Everidge), who sound lovely but mostly annoy Llewyn Davis (Oscar Isaac). He’s a fan of those sweaters, though.

Replica: No

Notes: The Coen Brothers’ nod to the Clancy Brothers—the Irish folk music group who were known for their Aran knits as much as their voices—is short and sweet, but I imagine they could also make for tumultuous protagonists in a different movie. (Apologies to the two crooners I had to cut out since they wouldn’t fit in the side-by-side panel template I’ve been using for this.

The Sweater: A white Aran sweater with a shawl collar

Who Wore It: Nurse Beatrix "Trixie" Franklin (Helen George)

Replica: No

Notes: I know basically nothing about Call the Midwife (a common refrain this tournament tbh), but I can confirm that it’s a very good sweater.

Previously Defeated: (15) The Night Agent

The Sweater: A teal gansey sweater

Who Wore It: Colm Doherty (Brendan Gleeson), who’s so over his former best friend that he’s willing to chop off his own fingers to get the point across.

Replica: No

Notes: It’s the first of three—or four, depending on how you count two separate Star Trek franchises—titles returning to Knit Madness, but I think it’s a very different sweater than Colin Farrell’s red collared pullover that became the film’s breakout hit.

Previously Defeated: (10) The Worst Person in the World

The Sweater: A light gray twisted cable sweater

Who Wore It: Carmen "Carmy" Berzatto (Jeremy Allen White), a talented chef who definitely needs therapy.

Replica: No

Notes: I haven’t seen The Bear and have no interest in ever doing so, but I will at least admit this sweater is good.

Previously Defeated: (12) Percy Jackson and the Olympians

The Sweater: A green cable-knit sweater

Who Wore It: Saoirse Shaw (Roisin Gallagher), a TV writer who joins two of her friends to attend the wake of the estranged member of their group. Needless to say, it probably doesn’t go as planned.

Replica: No

Notes: This show only came out a few weeks ago, but it’s from Lisa McGee, the genius behind Derry Girls, so I have very high hopes for it. As for Netflix renewing it? Maybe not so much.

Previously Defeated: (4) Big Fish

The Sweater: A dark blue cabled shawl cardigan

Who Wore It: Logan Roy (Brian Cox), the patriarch of the Murdoch Roy family who makes his children dance and metaphorically stab each other in the back for the chance to run their mega-corporation that’s like Fox News meets Disney. And somehow seems almost quaint in the years since Succession ended.

Replica: Yes

Notes: I honestly could’ve picked any of Logan’s shawl cardigans (even if Vulture hated the brown one I put in Friday’s newsletter) for this because I want them all and only really went with the navy number pictured above because I could link to a replica pattern.

The Sweater: A chunky white Aran cardigan

Who Wore It: Jocelyn (Maria Bello), who is set to host the Jane Austen book club meeting to discuss Mansfield Park.

Notes: Despite Jocelyn’s link to Fanny Price’s story, she relates a lot more to Emma Woodhouse.
