Not a sweater, but a chic look nonetheless. (Source: Netflix)

You’ll notice that I’ve split the Elite Eight into two “days” of voting, even though every day since Round 2 began featured four matchups instead of the two you’re getting today and Wednesday. It’s not that I think this is too much—rather, in my attempt to spread Knit Madness throughout the entire month of March, it just made more sense to do it this way.

Besides, it leads to two more days of chaos where all but one of the matchups were proper nail-biters.

Textured/Color Work:
  • (4) Gilmore Girls (48.3%) vs (9) All Creatures Great and Small (51.7%)

  • (10) Pluribus (48.7%) vs (11) The Ballad of Wallis Island (51.3%)

Miscellaneous/Neck:
  • (2) Star Trek: The Next Generation (43.9%) vs (11) Shetland (56.1%)

  • (9) Die Hard 2 (51.3%) vs (13) The Residence (48.7%)

With the third round of voting now complete, here’s where we stand.

Voting will close on Monday, March 23, two days from now.

Cables Matchup: (2) Call the Midwife vs (13) How to Get to Heaven from Belfast

Credits: Netflix | Netflix

(2) Call the Midwife (7×01, “Episode 1”)

The Sweater: A white Aran sweater with a shawl collar

Who Wore It: Nurse Beatrix "Trixie" Franklin (Helen George)

Replica: No

Notes: There is way more of this show than I expected when I went to grab these screenshots.

Previously Defeated: (15) The Night Agent; (7) The Banshees of Inisherin; (14) The Jane Austen Book Club

(13) How to Get to Heaven from Belfast (1×03, “The Ghost”)

The Sweater: A green cable-knit sweater

Who Wore It: Saoirse Shaw (Roisin Gallagher), a TV writer who joins two of her friends to attend the wake of the estranged member of their group. Needless to say, it probably doesn’t go as planned.

Replica: No

Notes: Legitimate question: Has anyone seen this series? There’s a 1/8th chance I’ll be diving into this one and I don’t know a single person who’s seen it yet.

Previously Defeated: (4) Big Fish; (5) The Bear; (9) Inside Llewyn Davis

Holiday/Cardigan Matchup: (1) Twin Peaks vs (11) Project Hail Mary

Credits: Paramount+ | YouTube

(1) Twin Peaks (2×18, “On the Wings of Love”)

The Sweater: A brown and white Cowichan cardigan

Who Wore It: Margaret "The Log Lady" Lanterman (Catherine E. Coulson), one of the many quirky but extremely perceptive residents of Twin Peaks, Washington.

Replica: Yes (and yes)

Notes: The lone no. 1 seed and probably the weirdest title left in the competition. (Complimentary.) Also, I have absolutely no affiliation with this shop (I only think it looks cool as hell), but TIL a David Lynch-themed hand-dyed yarn collection exists if you’ve got disposable income and you’re into those skeins!

Previously Defeated: (16) A Very Harold & Kumar Christmas; (9) The Mindy Project; (12) Heretic

(11) Project Hail Mary

The Sweater: A white cardigan. The front features two wolf heads (depicted with reddish-brown yarn) on the sides, with two full-bodied wolves on the back

Who Wore It: Dr. Ryland Grace (Ryan Gosling), a teacher (and former molecular biologist) who becomes the world’s most unlikely candidate to save humanity.

Replica: Yes—but you can also see it in-person at AMC Lincoln Square

Notes: I don’t know how much to attribute this to the sweater itself vs the Ryan Gosling factor, but it’s a bit impressive that a sweater from a film that is debuting in theaters this weekend made it all the way to the Elite Eight. It’s a real Mary Maxim-off here. (…I’ll walk myself out.)

Previously Defeated: (6) Ugly Betty; (14) Practical Magic; (15) Peter Hujar’s Day
